Using Data Privacy to Become a Trusted Partner
Every business needs to have an intimate understanding of their customers. And data can give you a 360-degree view, helping you create advertising campaigns and brand assets that drive profits while reducing marketing costs.
But, as customers share more of their personal information online, data privacy issues and regulations have become one of the greatest challenges that companies face today.
The changing landscape of data collection
Tinuiti, a fast-growing digital marketing company, helps their clients identify, engage, and acquire customers across the digital ecosystem. They use their client’s first-party data and third-party signals to build the right audiences for their marketing efforts.
In 2016, the General Protection Data Regulation (GDPR) was approved, instituting a change that would fundamentally reshape the way data is handled across every sector, from healthcare to banking and beyond.
Tinuiti knew they had a responsibility to help their clients get compliant and keep their customer’s information safe and protected.
“We wanted to prepare ourselves and our customers in the most comprehensive and cost-effective way possible. So, we looked for a partner who could be flexible with our needs and act as an extension of our team,” says Andrew Richardson, V.P. Analytics & Marketing Science of Tinuiti.
Richardson heard about our founder, Jodi Daniels, on the Digital Analytics Powerhour podcast, and contacted us to create a solution that adhered to GDPR’s requirements.
A leader in privacy-friendly strategies
After an initial consultation, we developed a strategy that would help Tinuiti prioritize the right tasks to get compliant before the official GDPR roll-out date.
We provided all the essential services, including a gap analysis, data inventory, compliance training for staff and customers, GDPR-Compliant privacy and cookie notices, and review and implementation of security policies.
The gap analysis helped us establish a frame of reference for what Tinuiti was doing well and where we needed to focus our efforts. We built a solid foundation from there so they could not only comply with GDPR but be ready for future regulations, like the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
“Tinuiti’s culture embraces data privacy. They didn’t view it as a compliance activity but as a chance to build trust with their clients and do more than expected. They even prioritized training their employees, so data privacy now transcends into the work they deliver day-in and day-out,” says Jodi Daniels, Founder of Red Clover Advisors.
In addition to hosting a company-wide training, Tinuiti wanted to position themselves as a trusted partner, so we helped them put together an informative webinar for existing and new clients.
Midway through the project, they acquired another company. Realizing data privacy was more than just a project but an ongoing part of their company, they hired us as their Fractional Privacy Officer.
“Red Clover Advisors took a very consultative approach to understand what our needs are and how they evolve over time. We need to be good stewards of the data we have on our clients and our client’s customers. Red Clover Advisors, far and away, has helped us to do that. They’re an invaluable privacy resources,” says Richardson.
Currently, Red Clover Advisors helps Tinuiti remain nimble to upcoming U.S. based regulations and prepare their clients for the ever-evolving digital landscape.
